Meetings

“Chapter 76, Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE), generally meets on the 2nd Wednesday after the first Monday of each month. The date rarely varies from this formula. This keeps the meeting towards the middle of every month.

The usual meeting location is the Sizzler Restaurant, 1010 Postal Way, Springfield, OR 97401, 541-726-9933  and the time is 11:30 a.m. You do not need to be a member of the SBE to attend these meetings, nor do you have to be a member of the local broadcast community. As long as the topic of the meeting is of interest to you, you’re invited. If you see that a given month is “Reserved” for an exhibitor, it means simply that. Additional details of meetings are posted here as soon as they’re available.”

Radical Console Designs and Virtual Radio
Radical New Console Designs for Radio and TV

At NAB 2017, Logitek introduced a new Radical design for Audio Consoles for both Radio and
TV. By the end of the show, we had won Best of Show awards for both Radio and TV.

We looked at all the things we’ve been doing because we’ve always done it that way and then set
out to do things because they needed doing. We eliminated a lot of intimidating physical buttons
and knobs. We combined the physical with the virtual and when we were done, we had a radical
new console that had faders and on/off buttons and a touch screen interface that engaged the user
making navigation not only easy but fun. Just as the smartphone made previous phones look like
ancient artifacts, the Helix makes all other consoles look like relics of the past.

At the Radio Show 2017 we introduced JetLink, a high quality, ultra low latency audio Codec.
The broadcast optimized implementation of the Opus Codec, along with the Helix Studio Virtual
Console, will help usher in Virtual Radio and open up a host of low cost options for engaging
your audience.

We’ll discuss the design criteria, hardware and software choices that led us to developing a
console based on web pages and the reasons why we think the Helix console, the console for the
smartphone generation, and the JetLink will be in your future.
